A former teenage prodigy, he has twice been crowned British Champion Flat Jockey, topping the standings in 2022 and 2023, and has amassed over 120 Group 1 winners worldwide. The rise of a
global talent

William grew up in Norway and began riding racehorses before he went to school in Oslo.

To further his career, he switched to the United Kingdom, firstly during the holidays and then for a permanent position with apprentice kingmaker Andrew Balding.

William rode his first winner, aged 18, in 2006 and the following season went very close to becoming British Champion Apprentice. He tied for the title in 2008 with David Probert on 50 wins each in a battle which went to the wire.

This early promise led to William being offered the position of first jockey to the legendary John Gosden in 2010.

Five years later, he joined the world-renowned Godolphin organisation and is still in the role today, riding as the number one for trainer Charlie Appleby.
